Wedge pillows - secrets and suggestions

If you suffer from heartburn you'll know how bad it can be. And especially how painful it can be during the night. You will also know a little about the medical cuases of heartburn, and while they are complex, they can be summed up in layman's terms by saying material from your stomach comes too far up your windpipe and burns sensitive areas in your lower mouth. This is why people are using wedge pillows to help get rid of heartburn and reflux. Because they help keep your head and neck up above the level of your stomach.

There are a good number of reliable wedge pillows available. But one you might like to consider is from Jobri. It's their Spine Reliever Bed Wedge and its made with supportive polyurethene foam in the classic wedge shape. Quite different from the body pillows, of course, and although it supports the neck, it is also different to neck support pillows. The Jobri wedges range from seven inches to one foot in height at the back and you can use them either horizontally, when you are sleeping and need to keep your head above your stomach, or vertically, to assist you when you sit up in bed. The cover is eithe terry cloth or cotton, both of which are washable.

Another option for wedge pillows would be the wedge from DMI, which they call the Foam Bed Wedge. This one will also serve to elevate a leg or a knee. It comes inthe standard range of heights: from seven to 12 inches. Their wedges are 24 inches long and the slope varies from 16 degrees (for the seven inch wedge) tthorugh 22 degrees (in the 10 inch wedge) to 26 degrees on their largest wedge pillow.
Doctors tell us that amost 80 percent of heartburn sufferers experience this condition at night. For many of these people a simple wedge pillow would be well worth trying. As long as your stomach is lower, the material cannot move up and affect your throat. So it is wedge pillows -- and not body pillows or even neck support pillows -- that will give you relief during the night.
